Crappie (Speck) Trips

Family-friendly winter crappie trips on Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee Chain — steady action, great numbers, and the best-eating fish around.

Crappie (Speck) Trips

If you want a relaxed day with lots of bites and a cooler full of delicious fillets, a crappie trip is the way to go. Specks school up by the hundreds in the cooler months, and when we get on them, the action can be nonstop. It’s one of the most family-friendly trips I offer and a favorite for anglers who care more about steady bites and good eating than chasing one big fish.

I run these trips on Lake Okeechobee and, by request, on the Kissimmee Chain — both are outstanding crappie fisheries.

A Winter Specialty

Crappie fishing peaks in the cooler months, roughly November through March. As the water cools, the fish gang up in big schools and feed hard, then push shallow to spawn as winter turns to spring. For visitors escaping cold weather up north, it’s the perfect Florida fishing trip — comfortable temperatures and fast action.

How We’ll Fish

Specks are easy to fish for, which is what makes this such a great trip for kids and beginners. Depending on where the schools are sitting, we’ll use:

  • Jigs worked around brush, grass edges, and open-water schools
  • Live minnows under floats or on jig heads — about as easy as fishing gets
  • Spider-rigging and slow trolling to cover water and dial in the right depth

I’ll have everything rigged and ready and show you exactly how to do it. Once we find a school, it’s often just a matter of dropping in and reeling them up.

Great for Families & Numbers

This is a numbers trip. The bites come quick, the gear is light and simple, and everyone in the boat stays busy — which makes it ideal for kids, first-timers, and groups who want a fun, productive day. And the payoff at the end is one of the best fish fries in Florida.

Book a Crappie Trip

Crappie are best from late fall through early spring. Half-day and full-day options are available — reach out with your dates and let’s load the cooler with specks.
